Giin / "hard g" sound / geen : to eat. "Giin Khao" / "let's eat!"
welcome to giin thai canteen Now Open on weekends
If you like your Thai food hot and spicy, this is the place to be! Our goal has been to re-create more of the authenticity of the cuisine in Thailand, with the goodness and freshness of local ingredients, resulting in spicy and flavorful bites of mouth-watering delights. And, with less of the sweetness that is all too familiar with Thai cuisine in the Americas and outside of Thailand.
You'll find nothing too fancy here - in fact, you could call us "bare bones." Just great grub that bursts with the flavors of the bustling markets and street food that makes Thailand such a fantastic destination for unique food and culture. A little bit like Berkeley itself, na? So, "sawadee krub" or "sawadee ka" (a polite hello), and "Giin Khao!" (Let's Eat!).
